Happy New Year 2011: The One Year Anniversary of Cooktivism

Soaking Black Eyed Peas

Happy New Year, everyone. This is our one year anniversary post. In December of 2009, Jackie and I sat down in my apartment amid a table full of cookbooks and notebooks and came up with the idea for this blog. We created the blog and hit the ground running with one post each day for Philly Fun-A-Day. Since then, we have been posting recipes as we came up with them. Our recipes celebrate sustenance and show our joy for cooking. We sought to create a blog that highlighted locally owned businesses and discussed the importance of Community Supported Agriculture. We aren’t perfect and sometimes our ingredients weren’t sustainable. We admit that, but sometimes or little fat kid hearts would not allow us to skip the organic Fair Trade bananas when they were so beautifully displayed at the co-op.

As with any project, we’ve had our ups and downs. I have been trying to navigate the culinary world with my cumbersome food allergy baggage and Jackie has been busy changing the world. Our impacts in both spheres are very different, but are both very important. For 2011, I hope we can continue to cook and post recipes and commentary in this safe space we have created. Cooktivism brings us both great joy and it is something that will last for many years to come.

We would like to thank you for coming to our blog and checking out our recipes. Without readers, we would have quit doing this a long time ago.

We hope this year is your best year yet. We wish you love and luck with it comes to your resolutions or goals you have set for the new year. We wish you peace and harmony in all you do. We wish you well and we hope you’ll continue to come back to read about our triumphs with food.
